A Leap of Faith
Fresh out of Southern Methodist University with a degree in business, Jim Scott was beginning both a career and a family in Dallas. Like many young entrepreneurs of the era, he was drawn to the opportunities created by a rapidly growing city and a booming housing market. Together with longtime friend and business partner Ed Jarrett, Jarrett and Scott was formed.
Building Through Uncertainty
The 1980s brought significant economic challenges to Texas. As markets shifted and builders faced increasing uncertainty, Jim and Ed's professional paths diverged and Jim Scott and Sons was born.
The lessons learned during these years helped shape a company designed not simply to survive changing markets, but to endure through generations.
Building Homes and Building a Family
As the company matured, so did the Scott family. While Jim continued building homes throughout Dallas, he and his wife Margaret were focused on raising their growing family. Construction sites often became classrooms for the Scott kids. Jobsite visits, truck rides, and afternoons walking homes under construction gave the second generation a firsthand view of what it meant to serve clients, solve problems, and take pride in a job well done.
Passing the Torch
As the next generation grew older, many became involved in the family business, learning the trade and the responsibilities that came with it. Peter's professional journey initially led him in a different direction, and homebuilding was never part of the original plan. That changed when Jim invited Peter to return to Dallas and help carry the growing demands of the company. What began as a simple conversation became the start of a new chapter.
Working side by side, father and son combined decades of experience, shared values, and a common commitment to serving clients well. Together they began preparing the company for the future.
The Company Evolves.
Following Jim Scott's passing in 2018, Peter assumed leadership of the company and continued building upon the foundation his father established over four decades. Under Peter's leadership, Jim Scott and Sons evolved into a well-known Dallas premier luxury custom homebuilder and remodeling firm.

While the business has embraced the innovations provides in the fields of construction science and new technology, refined processes, and elevated client experiences, its core values remain unchanged.
In 2026, the company entered a new chapter with the name “Generations”. The name reflects a belief that the best homes, and the best legacies, are never built by one person alone.
